The Huchuy Qosqo ruins are located near the town of Lamay, in the Sacred Valley of the Incas. Huchuy Qosqo was built during the reign of Inca Wiraqocha, as a resting place for the Inca nobility.
It is possible to visit Huchuy Qosqo on a day trip. Once on the Inca ruins, you will get spectacular views of the Sacred Valley and the Vilcanota mountain range. On a clear day, the Pitusiray snow capped mountain can be seen in the distance.
This trek is a high altitude experience. You will be trekking on an average altitude of 3000 m.a.s.l (9842 f.a.s.l.). So, you will need hiking boots to complete the trek comfortably. Also, we recommend you to spend some days in Cusco city before taking the trip. It will help you to avoid suffering from altitude sickness.
In our Huchuy Qosqo Trek of 2 days, you will explore Huchuy Qosqo on the first day. On the second day, you will visit the incredible Inca citadel of Machu Picchu. Unlike the original Inca Trail, the Huchuy Qosqo trek is not a direct route to Machu Picchu.

Cusco Hotel Transfer

We will leave Cusco early in the morning. Then, we will drive to Tauca town, the start point of our adventure. Next, we will be walking through the beautiful Sacred Valley. You will find maize, potato, and quinoa farms along the way.
After walking for around 45 minutes, we will start ascending to a mountain pass located at 4050 m.a.s.l (13287 f.a.s.l.). Once on the mountain pass, you will get stunning views of the surrounding valleys and mountains.
Then, we will descend to Huchuy Qosqo. You will explore the ancient Inca buildings overlooking the Sacred Valley. Most of these buildings are made of stone and mud bricks. The main building is a great rectangular structure of three levels.
After the guided tour, we will go to Lamay town, from where we will drive to Ollantaytambo. Once there, we will board a train to Aguas Calientes. The train trip from Ollantaytambo to Aguas Calientes takes around 1.5 hours.
Once we arrive in Aguas Calientes, our staff will transfer you to your hotel room. Afterwards, you will have free time to explore the town and its famous hot springs.
We will leave the hotel early in the morning after having breakfast. We will board a bus to Machu Picchu. The bus trip takes around 30 minutes to complete. Afterwards, we will pass some security checkpoints, before entering the Inca citadel.
Next, you will have a guided tour of Machu Picchu. You will explore the Intihuatana, the stone terraces, the Main Temple, among other Inca monuments. If you have a ticket to Huayna Picchu, our tour guide will accompany you to the respective entrance.
Afterwards, we will return to Aguas Calientes town. You will have free time to have lunch at a local restaurant. The lunch is not included in the tour price. In the afternoon we will return by train to Ollantaytambo.
Once we arrive in Ollantaytambo, our staff will transfer you to Cusco city. You will arrive in Cusco around 9:00 pm.
