Ausangate mountain is the highest peak of the Cusco region. Due to its high altitude (6385 m.a.s.l or 20948 f.a.s.l). Ausangate is considered a god or “Apu” by the local population. The most famous religious festival of the zone is the pilgrimage to the Qoyllur Riti Sanctuary.
One of the most famous places located near Ausangate is the Vinicunca Rainbow Mountain. The surface of this mountain is covered in blue, red, and green tones. Its unusual appearance has turned this place into one of the most visited destinations in Cusco.
The Pacchanta Hot Springs are another tourist attraction of the Ausangate Trek. These hot springs are located outside a town of the same name. The hot springs have a direct view of the nearby mountains.
The Ausangate Trek takes between 4 to 5 days to complete. It traverses glaciers, lagoons, and numerous Andean towns and farms. The activities of this trek do not include climbing Ausangate mountain. However, it is necessary to have good physical health to participate in the trek.
During this trek, you will be hiking numerous mountain passes of the Cordillera Vilcanota. We recommend spending some days in Cusco city before attempting to take this trek. It helps your body to acclimatize and prevent altitude sickness.
We provide duffel bags to carry up to 7 kg (15 pounds) of baggage. However, you will need to bring your own sleeping bag, or rent one for the trip.

Cusco Hotel Transfer

We will leave Cusco around 6:00 am in our private transportation. We will drive to Tinki town, where our adventure will start. During the trek we will walk through the incredible Andean landscapes.
We will encounter many Andean farms along the way. We will also spot numerous llamas and alpacas grazing near the trail. These animals are adapted to the cold climate of the Andes mountains.
At 13:00 pm, we will stop to have lunch. Then, we will continue our trek to Upis town. Once there, we will set up our tents to spend the night.
We will wake early in the morning to have breakfast. Then, we will hike towards the Arapa Pass, located at 4958 m.a.s.l. (16266 f.a.s.t.). Once we pass Arapa, we will descend to our lunch spot located near Pucacocha lagoon.
After having lunch, we will trek to the Pucacocha pass, located at 5000 m.a.s.l. (16404 f.a.s.l.). Next, we will descend for 2 hours to the Ananta campsite, where we will spend the night.
After having breakfast early in the morning, we will hike to Surini pass, located at 5051 m.a.s.l. (16571 f.a.s.l.). From there, we will spot the Vinicunca Rainbow Mountain in the distance.
Next, we will hike towards Vinicunca. Once there, you will have a short guided tour of the mountain. You will learn about its history and the origin of its unique colors. Afterwards, we will descend to the Alqatari campsite, where we will spend the night.
We will wake up early in the morning to continue our adventure. After having breakfast, we will hike towards the Palomani pass, located at 5300 m.a.s.l. (17388 f.a.s.l.). This pass is the highest point of the entire Ausangate Trek.
Then, we will descend to Huchuy Phinaya village, where we will have lunch. Finally, we will walk to the Jampa campsite, where we will spend the night.
After waking up early, we will start the final day of the Ausangate trek. We will hike for around 3 hours to the last mountain pass of the trek, located at 4900 m.a.s.l. (16076 f.a.s.l.). From there, we will get some amazing views of the nearby mountains and glaciers.
Then, we will descend to the famous 7 lagoons. These lagoons have a beautiful turquoise color, similar to the Humantay lagoon. After exploring the lagoons, we will walk to Pacchanta.
Once in Pacchanta, we will have lunch. This place is also famous for its hot springs. You will have plenty of time to relax and bathe there.
Finally, we will board our private vehicle to return to Cusco city. We will be arriving in Cusco around 7:00 pm.
