DAY 1
Introduction to the Amazon
Your adventure begins with a warm reception at the airport by your Inkanto Travel tour guide. We recommend repacking into a smaller bag for ease. A scenic 2-hour car or minivan journey takes us to the Tambopata River banks.
Here, we board a boat, venturing upstream on both the Tambopata and Malinowski Rivers for around 60 minutes. This route offers stunning landscapes and a chance to spot riverside fauna.
Upon arrival at Casa Malinowski Jungle Lodge, a natural fruit drink awaits you. We’ll introduce you to your room, featuring a single bed, nightstand, and private bathroom. Also you’ll have an armchair made from liana, with a large window that opens to the forest. The lodge’s construction uses wasai palm and crisneja leaf, creating a cool and serene atmosphere.
Then, we will have lunch in our temporary home.
In the afternoon, we embark on an interpretive walk among the Amazon’s giant trees, learning about their importance and observing the diverse wildlife. As dusk falls, a boat trip on the Malinowski River gives us a chance to spot white alligators by flashlight. The day ends with dinner and a restful night at the lodge.
Day 1 Statistics:
- Distance Traveled: Approximately 120 km (75 miles) by car and boat.

DAY 2
Observation of Parrots and Macaws at the Clay Licks
An early start at 05:00 am takes us down the Malinowski River for 20 minutes. Then across the Tambopata River, to the Ocho Gallinas and Chuncho clay licks. These natural clay walls are a vital source of minerals for hundreds of parrots, parakeets, and macaws. We’ll enjoy breakfast while watching this spectacular display of avian life.
Post-breakfast, our journey continues along both rivers, with opportunities to see birds, caimans, capybaras, and, with luck, jaguars resting on sandbanks. Following lunch, we’ll venture into the forest once again. By 2:00 p.m., we embark on a journey along the Malinowski House project’s trails, leading us to a towering Lupuna (Ceiba pentandra).
Here, you’ll discover the critical role this species plays within the ecosystem and capture memorable photos. After concluding our exploration, we’ll make our way back to the city of Puerto Maldonado.
