Palccoyo Rainbow Mountain is located 124 km (77 miles) southeast of Cusco. It has an altitude of 4900 m.a.s.l. (16076 f.a.s.l.). Like Vinicunca, Palccoyo displays diverse colors on its surface. These tones vary from red and green to purple. 

Palccoyo Cusco is quite similar to Vinicunca. The key differences are the difficulty of the trek and the number of people who visit it. Trekking to Vinicunca can take up to 2 hours of walking. However, going to Palccoyo just takes between 45 minutes and 1 hour of trekking. Also, the road to Palccoyo has a lower slope. 

Palcoyo Rainbow Mountain is less famous than Vinicunca. Vinicunca is visited by hundreds of people every single day. So, the road to Vinicunca becomes crowded very quickly.  If you want to have a peaceful trek while avoiding large group tours, Palccoyo is your best option. 

Our alternative Rainbow Mountain tour starts with a car trip from Cusco to Checacupe town. It is followed by a short trek of around 1 hour to Palccoyo. The mountaintop of Palccoyo offers a spectacular view of the surrounding valleys and the nearby stone forest. 

We offer small groups tours to Palccoyo. A professional tour guide will accompany you during the whole experience. We do not recommend you to visit Palccoyo during the rainy season, because the road becomes slippery and quite dangerous.

Before taking this tour, we suggest you spend one day in Cusco or more, in order to avoid suffering from altitude sickness.
