Machu Picchu
Machu Picchu 2 Day Tours from Cusco
Tour Details
Machu Picchu is an Inca archaeological center located 80 km (49.7 miles) from the city of Cusco. Its construction was ordered by Inca Pachacutec in the XV century, after conquering the Vilcabamba region.
Machu Picchu has 3 different zones. The first one is the agricultural zone. This zone contains numerous terraces made of stone. Most terraces were used to grow crops to feed the inhabitants of Machu Picchu. The terraces located in the lower part of Machu Picchu served as the retaining walls of the citadel.
The urban zone is the main area of Machu Picchu. It contains the most emblematic buildings of the citadel, such as the Main Temple, the Temple of the Sun, and the Intihuatana. The urban zone is also divided in two areas: the lower area or “Hurin”, and the higher area or “Hanan”.
The last sector is the quarry zone. It contains rustic buildings which housed the guardians and workers of Machu Picchu. Numerous tools, pieces of pottery, and unfinished stone blocks have been found in this sector.
In this 2-day tour, you will visit Machu Picchu after traversing the Sacred Valley of the Incas. On the first day, you will go to Ollantaytambo town, where you will take a train to Aguas Calientes. On the second day, you will enjoy a guided tour of the incredible Inca citadel of Machu Picchu.
Before taking this tour, we highly recommend spending some days in Cusco city. It helps you to avoid suffering from altitude sickness while traveling to Machu Picchu.
